Local Cat Caught Between Post and a Soft Place

Pickles, an area cat known to friends as a late sleeper, found himself in a tough situation early Monday when his alarm jarred him awake.

“He must have leaped clear off the mattress,” says Harold Carmichael, the cat’s longtime friend and roommate. “When I found him, he had one claw stuck to his scratching post, the other one reaching for the bed.”

Sources familiar with the situation report that it took nearly 20 minutes for Pickles to untangle himself.

“It was a scene,” says Carmichael. “But he came out alright.”

Cat Locks in Star Trek ‘Tribble’ Costume for Halloween

It’s not quite October yet, but Stanley, a local cat, has already decided on his costume.

“He’s a huge Star Trek fan, especially the original series from the ‘60s,” says Carol Salinger, a source familiar with the situation. “So he’s going trick-or-treating this year as a Tribble.”

The famous fictional aliens from the Shatner-led show made their first appearance in an episode titled “The Trouble With Tribbles” in 1967.

“They’re basically little balls of fluff,” explains Salinger. “The best part is, Stanley doesn’t even need to buy a costume. He’s just going to scrunch himself up into a little ball.”

Area Dog Fired from Security Job

A local dog was let go from his security guard position after just two weeks on the job, according to sources close to the situation. DRP Protection Services, an area security contractor, has staffed up recently after winning a contract to provide security for a large, suburban construction project earlier this year.

“Frankie was a good dog,” said another newly-hired member of the security team, who asked to be identified only by his last initial, M. “He had the look, but I don’t think he really had the disposition.” 

M told The Fluffington Post that Frankie often goofed around at work. 

“We’re supposed to be doing rounds and he’s over here getting belly rubs or chewing on his foot,” said M. “It was only a matter of time until he got canned.”

DRP could not be reached for comment, though a want ad for a security guard appeared on Craigslist late yesterday.
