Local Cat Wins 53rd Annual Pinata Tournament

Held every year in Guadalajara, Mexico, the World Pinata Championship brings seasoned stuffers and whackers from all over the globe. The tournament pits 50 brackets of competitors in one-on-one duels, whittling away the competition until a final match determines the ultimate victor.

“This year, it was a cat from Boston,” says Esteban Gutierrez, a referee who has officiated the tournament for 11 years. “His name is Benny, and he’s the 53rd champion. It was a great show.”

It was a hard-fought victory – Benny bested a number of previous champions to attain the title.

“As soon as he won the final round, he dove right in for the candy,” says Gutierrez. “It was … well, let’s just say it was an interesting photo op.”

Child Anthropologist Accepted by Pug Tribe

A young anthropologist named Jackson has been living among a New Jersey tribe of pugs since early 2011 in order to document their complex social interactions.

“It’s really the disguise – an oversized pug face T-shirt – that has endeared him to the family group,” says Dr. Marc Henning, a colleague familiar with Jackson’s research. “They have truly accepted him as one of their own – eating together, sleeping in the same huts. To my knowledge, no one has been able to study this remote group so intimately.”

Jackson is set to publish his first paper in the journal Pug Science this August, but has no intention of returning to civilization.

“He’ll likely remain embedded with the tribe for a few more years,” says Dr. Henning. “The opportunity to collect more data here is too important.”

Cat Loses Laptop

Oliver the cat knew he shouldn’t have taken his new MacBook on the bus. Even in its clearly marked tote bag, the laptop was all too easily forgotten when Oliver got off at his stop last weekend.

“I couldn’t believe he would just forget it like that – he’s only had the thing for a month,” says Dan Welker, a source close to the cat.

Despite filing a claim with the local bus company, Oliver has yet to see his computer. As one would imagine, things just haven’t been the same.

“He’ll go to Starbucks, but he won’t know what to do,” says Welker. “Normally, he’d have his MacBook with him. Now he just sits there, waiting for his coffee to boot up. It’s actually pretty sad to watch.”

BREAKING: Denver Cops In Hot Pursuit of Fugitive Bunny

Authorities in Denver, CO are engaged in a frantic car chase with a suspected arugula thief heading north on Interstate 25. Witnesses at a local Safeway supermarket reported seeing the suspect, identified by police as a 4-year-old bunny named Belly, leave the store with a pawful of lettuce under a trench coat.

When Safeway security was alerted, Belly allegedly hopped into his Ford Fiesta and sped off. Local police were soon in pursuit.

“I knew there was something weird going on,” says grocery shopper Linda McNally, who witnessed the alleged heist. “That bunny was sniffing around, looking all suspicious. I saw him snatch the arugula – he couldn’t help himself!”

At this time, a squadron of police cars are trailing a safe distance from the Fiesta, and on-ramps to Interstate 25 north of Denver have been closed for public safety.
