Owl Refuses to Reveal Tootsie Roll Pop Secrets

It is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the candy industry: how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?

Though the company’s official stance is that the number varies and “the world may never know,” the secret of the actual number of licks was entrusted to a great horned owl in 1970. Now just a few days away from retirement, many in the candy world hope that he might finally reveal the number.

“Nope, I’m sure that information is going with him to the grave,” said Tootsie Roll historian, Reginald Fairchild. “Even in retirement, I wouldn’t place bets that he’ll ever reveal that secret.”

Still, candy industry watchers think there is a good chance that the owl will decide to write a memoir, which could at least hint at the actual number of licks it takes to reach the chocolatey Tootsie Roll center.

Dog’s Garden Grows Faster than Anticipated

When Zoe the dog planted her flower garden a few weeks ago, she assumed it would be a lot of watering and tending before she got any results. She was shocked at how quickly the plants have grown.

Though nothing has yet bloomed, her garden is far ahead of any other in her neighborhood in terms fo growth.

“They went from little seedlings to basically over her head in no time,” reported Donna Kalish, a fellow member of the local gardening club. “We all wanted to know her secret, but Zoe claims she doesn’t know what made the plants grow so fast. I think she’s just being coy.”

Catnip Cartel Allegedly Hacks Into Online Pet Store Website

Authorities believe that Tiny Melendez, the leader of the Blanco catnip cartel, is behind a recent hacking scheme that rerouted delivery of thousands of pounds of catnip bound for a national pet store chain. The catnip went missing last week.

The nip, which had a street value of $500,000, fell off the grid at the port of Veracruz. It never made it into the United States.

It appears, according to the FBI, that the Blanco cartel may have hacked into the shipping company’s computers and altered the tracking information for the shipment. By the time the catnip was stolen from the port, there was no longer any digital record that it had ever even been there.

“This is high-tech, sophisticated stuff,” said FBI investigator Bo Lambert. “We suspect Blanco because computer theft has been their M.O. in the past, and cartel leader Tiny received training at M.I.T.”
