Indiana Cat Bemoans Demise of Print Media
By Anna Washenko, FluffPo Correspondent
Much of the world has decided that news is best obtained online in a flurry of tweets, status posts, and grabby headlines. But in a cozy house in Zionsville, IN, the tradition of reading an old-fashioned newspaper still holds a treasured place in daily life.
For Laura (human) and Butternut (cat) Shelby, reading together on the weekend isn’t just about knowing what’s happening in the headlines. It’s about spending enjoyable time together.
“We’ve read the Sunday paper together for ages,” said Laura Shelby, whose lap is pictured above. “I love the crossword puzzles, and Butternut will catch up on the sports pages. We’ll have some biscotti and coffee. It’s such a relaxing way to end the weekend.”
Rumors have been swirling recently that the local Zionsville daily will cease publication in favor of an all-digital subscription. Ms. Shelby said she’d miss the peaceful Sundays if that change does come to pass.
“I know publishers talk about how great the tablets and the smartphones are,” she said. “But it’s just not the same. Plus, Butternut can’t chase a crumpled up Kindle around the room.”

Puppy Really Wanted That Last Piece a Pie
By Anna Washenko, FluffPo Correspondent
Astor, a black lab from Brooklyn with a flair for baking, brought a strawberry rhubarb pie to her friends’ Labor Day picnic on Long Island. The afternoon was a great success, but after the meal, Astor got wrapped up in a game of frisbee and never got a chance to taste the fruit of her labors.
After a thorough investigation, sources revealed that Jackson Jefferson ate the last slice before Astor had a chance to call dibs. The eight-year-old had already enjoyed a first slice when he chose to gobble up the final piece, but claimed that he didn’t mean to deprive the lab of his dessert.
“I asked twice if everybody had had some pie,” Jefferson said in his defense. “It’s not my fault if Astor didn’t hear me!”
Astor did not comment on his hurt feelings, but did stare mournfully at Jefferson for the remainder of the picnic.
