Dog Home Ownership On the Rise
In what might be a sign that the canine economy is finally starting recover, new home sales to dogs was up 3% in April. That’s the first month-to-month gain in new dog house sales in over two years, after 27 consecutive months of stagnation or contraction in the dog housing market.
While this is certainly a positive indicator, economists warn that unemployment among dogs is still at history highs and there is a long way to go before the recession is over.

Baby Land Geese Invade Milwaukee
A new breed of geese that glide across the land as easily as most water fowl swim in rivers and ponds have been spotted in an around the environs of Milwaukee, WI. The so-called “land geese” are genetically different from normal geese, according to officials at the American Ornithologists’ Union.
“The land geese have a very specific genetic mutation that allows them to ‘paddle’ on dry land,” said Claude Procacci, a spokesperson for the AOU. “I can be disconcerting to see a flock of these birds gliding toward you over the grass, but they’re mostly harmless if unprovoked.”

Happy Dog Stops to Smell the Flowers
Summer, a Boston Terrier from King’s Falls, NJ, is reportedly one of the happiest pups in the world. "She scores a 122 on the Stephenson Happiness Index,“ says licensed canine moodologist Tracey Williams. "That’s off-the-charts happy. Most dogs score 90 to 100 on the Stephenson, and those are very happy dogs.”
What’s Summer’s secret? Living life at a leisurely pace. "She really lets everything just come to her in its own time,“ says Williams. "She quite literally stops to smell the roses.”
