‘Grumpy Cat’ Impersonators Spawn Cottage Industry
Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last three months, you surely know that Grumpy Cat (a.k.a. Tardar Sauce) has taken the Internet and media by storm. A recent tour of New York City featured stops at the TODAY Show, Mashable and BuzzFeed, to name a few.
Grumpy Cat’s wild fame has engendered a cottage industry of impersonators – professional Grumpy Cat lookalikes who work parties and office functions as novelty entertainment.
“Look, we all know it’s not really the Grumpy Cat,” says Sharon Balfour, who recently booked an impersonator for her office holiday party. “But everyone gets a real kick out of it.”
