Bulldog Plans to Draft Alec Baldwin for NYC Mayoral Race
A New York City bulldog named Skip has announced his intention to draft actor Alec Baldwin into the 2013 NYC mayoral race. The contest, which has yet to begin in earnest, figures to be wide open as the term-limited current mayor, billionaire Michael Bloomberg, will not be able to run.
Early favorites in the race include City Council speaker Christine Quinn and former Comptroller William Thompson, Jr. who was narrowly defeated by Bloomberg in 2009. So Baldwin figures to be a longshot. But that’s not stopping Skip, who plans to launch a web petition to draft the actor.
“Skip thinks Alec would make a great mayor,” said longtime friend and collaborator, Amos Watkins. "Everyone knows how much Alec loves the city. You saw those New Era commercials with John Krasinski last year during the MLB playoffs, right? That stuff was gold.“
According to the AP, Baldwin has no intention to run for mayor at this time, though he has considered it in the past.
