Coppola Reboot ‘Catpocalypse Now’ Is a Go, Says Studio
Francis Ford Coppola’s dark, wartime opus Apocalypse Now is considered a masterpiece by some. But many feel it lacks one important element: cats.
That’s why, after 33 years, Zoetrope Studios has finally green lit a reboot that will make this iconic Vietnam War story more accesible to the Internet generation.
“The original film is great, if you like that sort of thing,” says Connor Kidman, who was tapped by Zoetrope to direct the remake. “But it’s very grim, very dirty. There’s not a lot of cuteness or cuddly scenes, you know? We want to bring that to the fore by casting cats in every role.”
Legendary feline actor Mittens has already signed on to play Benjamin Willard, the role originated by Martin Sheen.
“Mittens is a fantastic talent,” says Kidman. “He makes the tension palpable while still bringing the cute. Not every actor can deliver on that.”
