Cat Cyberbullied Over Awkward Selfie
When you ask friends what defines Cheeto, a 2-and-a-half-year-old cat from New Orleans, LA, you’ll get a lot of similar answers.
“He’s very into himself,” says Arnold Scudder. “It seems like whenever we talk, the conversation always veers back around to him.”
So it’s no surprise that Cheeto’s Facebook profile is littered with his own self-taken portraits. But one in particular caught the eye of classmates, and it soon made the rounds.
“He just had this silly look on his face, like he’s trying to impress us,” says Lillian Casarez, who saw a friend share the photo online. “A lot of other kids didn’t think it was cute, so they started leaving mean comments and making fun of him.”
“He was cyberbullied,” says Joseph Craig, the superintendent where Cheeto attends middle school. “We looked into it, and asked students who had shared the photo to remove it. Cheeto went home early. He was a little upset, but I think he learned a valuable lesson about the Internet.”
