Critic: Cat’s Overacting Ruins Play
Drama critic Bill Roann has a bone to pick with the performance of Casper the cat. In a review he recently penned for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland, OR, the critic wrote: “In what was an otherwise delightful little play, Casper’s performance was contrived, melodramatic and exaggerated to the point of near unwatchability. Casper dragged what would have been a relatively easy play to recommend down into the dregs of mediocrity.”
Casper’s agent, Tracy Landis, had a diplomatic, if slightly biting response when reached for comment.
“I’m not sure what play Mr. Roann was watching, but he is certainly entitled to his opinion,” she said. "Casper has been an institution in the Oregon theater scene for the past 18 months. He has received numerous accolades, and no other reviewers seem to have a personal problem with him the way Roann apparently does.“
