Move Over, GPS: This Sheep Is a Professional Backseat Driver

March 28, 2017 · Leave a Comment

In the gig economy, Uber, Lyft and TaskRabbit are ubiquitous brands. But Flock is trotting up on their heels. And a few enterprising sheep have been able to make a living as freelance backseat drivers.

“Let’s say you forgot your car GPS,” says Henry Erstwhile, a spokesperson for the up-and-coming app. “Just open Flock and find a sheep near you who can hop into the back seat. Tell her where you’re headed and she’ll bleat the way.” One “baa” for a right turn, two “baas” for a left.

It may seem a little counter-intuitive at first. If you have your smartphone in hand, why not use a navigation app rather than go to the trouble of loading a sheep into your car?

“Admittedly there are still a few kinks to work out,” says Erstwhile. “We’re hiring more engineers.”

Industry analysts estimate Flock is already worth $12 billion.

Teen Sheep Line Up for One Direction Tickets

Teen Sheep Line Up for One Direction Tickets

The Fab Five are headed to the Scottish Highlands for three sold-out shows this summer, but a block of tickets has been reserved for a handful of lucky sheep. Nearly 150 stood in line at 6 a.m. local time for a chance to see One Direction in concert.

“We knew all the tickets would be bought up online as soon as they went on sale,” says Jackie Goulding, tour manager for the pop supergroup. “We know the boys have a lot of fans out here on the pasture, so we wanted to offer at least some of them a chance to see the show.”

Lamb’s Winter Look Sparks Interest From Paris, Milan

The chilly winter air prompted a Watkins Glen, NY sheep to bundle up her lamb on the way to school one morning. The duo was snapped by a fashion photographer, and the lamb’s chic jacket has been circulating in designer circles from New York to Paris to Milan.

“A lamb already wears a coat of wool,” says fashion writer Monique Rivera. “To wear a jacket on top of that is such a bold statement. It’s brave, is what it is.”

Fashion blogs are already speculating about the lines that may emerge from this single photo, though it may be spring before anything hits the runway.

Bunnies Displacing Sheepdogs In Record Numbers

February 3, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Sheepdog Workers of America (Local 52) has filed grievances against several farms for firing experienced herding dogs and replacing them with young, underpaid bunnies – some of whom may be undocumented.

“This rampant cost-cutting will only lead to more lost sheep,” the February 1st memo notes.

One of the farmers in question, Philip McDonald of Dixie, ID, refutes the union’s claims, citing his farm’s fair hiring practices. “The bunnies are faster and more efficient. They keep the sheep in line,” Old McDonald tells The Fluffington Post. “Why wouldn’t you want to hire the best animal for the job?”
