Puggle Scores Job at Krispy Kreme
Despite a tough economy, jobs abound at a local Krispy Kreme donut shop, where Buddy the puggle popped in for a quick jelly D. Twenty minutes and a short stack of paperwork later, Buddy walked out with an assistant manager title.
“He’s really excited about it,” says Jeff Townsend, a close friend. “The pay’s pretty good, but most of all: free donuts.”

Kitten Charged With Tail Assault
An area kitten has been arrested and charged with first-degree tail assault after nibbling ferociously on his father’s hindquarters.
“It was really shocking,” says Stacy Powers, who witnessed the incident first-hand. “That kitten came out of nowhere and went right for the tail. The cat never stood a chance.”
Police have not released the name of the kitten, as he is a minor.

Town Residents Question Wisdom of Kitten Fire Chief
Two weeks ago, Wolfie the cat was named fire chief of Allentown, PA. At the time, the press hailed the decision to name a feline fire chief evidence of improving human-animal relations, but new reports about his first few days in office are causing some to question the wisdom of that move.
The Allentown Bugle reports that Wolfie has spent $4,000 of the town’s fire safety fund on “catnip toys” and has diverted some money ear-marked for hydrant maintenance to “laser pointers.” Further, witnesses report seeing Wolfie nap through 911 drills at least twice since assuming his new post. The fire department could not be reached for comment.

“I think he got his autograph,” says Caroline Papa, who witnessed the exchange.

Cat Packaging Makes Up 7% of All U.S. Waste
A new study conducted by the Alliance for Sanitation Scrutiny (ASS) finds that a whopping 7% of all the waste generated by U.S. households comes from discarded cat packaging.
“Store-bought cats can come in packages that go three layers deep, in some cases,” says Robert Kincaid, project manager on the study. “Most of it is non-recyclable.”
While there are some cat retailers taking initiatives to reduce cat packaging waste, the problem is pervasive, and will need to be addressed industry-wide to see any meaningful impact.
