For the big and tall among us, flying in the cramped confines of economy or coach is a fate worse than bus travel. On his flight home for the holidays this year, a German Shepherd named Troy took matters into his own paws.
“He asked about upgrading as soon as he boarded,” says Harold Stein, a flight attendant for Delta who was working on the plane. “We had the room, so we accommodated him right away. He didn’t give the cost a second thought.”
His two-and-a-half hour flight to New York City was made smoother by complimentary beverages, snacks, and a broad selection of new release movies.
“He was cracking up watching Trainwreck,” says Randi Melcher, who sat behind Troy the entire flight. “And who can blame him, that Amy Schumer is hysterical.”
Sources close to the situation say Troy arrived rested and ready to face his family for Christmas.
This is not how Winnie the puppy had planned to end the semester. The freshman biology student at UC San Diego fell asleep during a review lecture in advance of her Genetics 105 final next week.
“She’s been to almost every class, so I think she’ll be okay,” said classmate Julie Quatrelli, who snapped the photo above and uploaded it to photo sharing site Imgur. “But I mean, this was a pretty important one. The professor basically told us what would be on the final.”
While sympathetic to Winnie, Quatrelli has no plans to share her own notes with the dog.
“Last time she borrowed my notes I got them back all shredded up and covered with doggy slobber,” she said. “Not doing that again.”
