U.S.S. Hedgehog Runs Aground Off Nantucket

A hedgehog vessel hit rough water off the coast of Nantucket Island, MA and was trapped in the shallows for nearly three hours before the National Guard could tow it to safety.

The ship had one passenger aboard who sustained no injuries. Dock workers report the vessel should be repaired and seaworthy within two days.

Puppies Face Mounting Student Loan Debt

Puppies Face Mounting Student Loan Debt

Today’s puppies have incurred substantially more student loan debt than previous generations, according to a New York Times report. The burden is beginning to take its toll.

“We found the price of obedience school today is 10 to 20 times higher than it was 15 years ago,” Times reporter Jenny Wachowiak tells The Fluffington Post. “The increase has not kept pace with wages. So puppies graduate with a mountain of debt, and not a lot of high-paying job opportunities.”

Young dogs might find work in the seeing-eye industry or show business. But hunting – a lucrative career option for previous generations – isn’t what it used to be.

“Even if a puppy finds work, it may not be enough to pay the rent and loans,” says  Wachowiak . “We’ve talked to many puppies who unfortunately see bankruptcy as a viable way out.”

Black Cat Shocked to Learn of Cultural Stereotypes

Home-schooled his entire life, Panda was sheltered from the biases that plagued his fellow black cats.

“The bad luck stuff, crossing your path, the association with witchcraft,” says Mina Shoal, a close friend. “I worry about Panda sometimes. He has no clue how tough it is out there for black kitties.”

Dog Consumed by Killer Couch

Dog Consumed by Killer Couch

Another day, another tragic couch disaster.  In what feels like a story stuck on constant replay, area pooch Zoey was lost to a killer couch early this morning.  Police responded to a 911 call at 10:25 AM, but were unable to extricate Zoey, who was already almost completely consumed by the iron grip of the couch when first responders arrived on the scene.

This is the fifteenth such couch accident in the city this year, which is already above the total number in all of 2011.  Though some incidents end with good news, most end in tragedy.

“These accidents are preventable,” said Kurt Brookover, founder of non-profit group Citizens for Couch Safety.  "The city needs to do more to make our couches safe and educate the public on how to avoid being sucked into dangerous couch cushion currents.“
