Elusive ‘Lion Maltese’ Spotted in the Wild
Hunted nearly to extinction for their prized and luxurious coats in the 1980s, rarely has a Lion Maltese been spotted in the wild during the past two decades. However, ornithologists in Borneo working on a story about Red-billed starlings for National Geographic, have reportedly spotted a pair of the ferocious pups.
The most fearsome of all Maltese dogs, the Lion Maltese is native to South East Asia. At their peak in the early part of the 20th century, it was estimated that there were some 140 million of the species in the world and their range extended as far South as Northern Australia.
Now that number is estimated to be in the mere thousands, with most in captivity, and the Lion Maltese is on the official endangered species list.
“It was truly incredible to see one of these beasts in the wild,” said Martin Whitford, a photographer on the National Geographic team. “We should be doing everything we can to protect these majestic creatures.”

Bunnies Reenact ‘Jane Eyre’ Marriage Proposal
As part of a school project, two bunnies named Hildegard and Francis have reenacted the marriage proposal scene from Jane Eyre. Francis took on the role of Rochester, while Hildegard became Jane.
“It was magnificent,” said their teacher, Mrs. Fiegelson. “Hildegard was really able to communicate the distress Jane felt when she confessed her love for Rochester. A+ work.”
The bunnies are planning to work together on their next class project, this time about The Great Gatsby.

Cat Demands Resupply of Lucky Charms Cereal
After nearly three weeks without his favorite morning meal, a cat named Bo has staged a breakfast sit-in until his demands are met.
“He’ll be camped out there until he sees Lucky Charms back in the pantry,” says Frida Lee, a spokesperson for the miffed kitty. “It’s one thing to switch to store-brand cereal, but to ditch it altogether? This will not stand.”
Witnesses say the standoff has been tense, but as of Wednesday, there has been no violence.
“He’s not out for blood here,” says Lee. “This is about standing up for what’s right. Also, soggy marshmallows.”
