Puppy Prevails in Safe Seat Lawsuit
A Brooklyn, NY puppy named Rumpi has won in court after being sued for allegedly stealing a spot on the couch. According to court documents obtained by The Fluffington Post, the puppy stood accused of taking a prime place at the end of the couch that had been occupied by one Howard W. Baines of 175 Penn St.
Baines alleged that he only vacated the seat for “a few minutes” to get a snack from the fridge while the two were watching a basketball game. When he came back, he testified, “Rumpi was sitting on my seat and he wouldn’t move at all.”
Marcia Streiber, an attorney for the defense, argued successfully that because Baines failed to call “safe seat” when he got up for a snack, the seat became fair game. Judges agreed, and Baines was ordered to pay court fees.
