Kitten’s Escape Thwarted by Paralyzing Fear of Outside

A local kitten’s daring escape was thwarted earlier today by what appears to have been a paralyzing fear of the outside. Once Henry the cat had cleared the front door, witnesses say his eyes grew very wide and he became very still.

“Then a twig snapped,” recounted on witness, “and he bolted under the front steps.”

It took authorities and crisis counselors two hours two hours to coax Henry from his hiding place, but he is now safe at home, resting with his family.

Hamsters Cast in ‘Blues Brothers’ Reboot

Hamsters Cast in ‘Blues Brothers’ Reboot

If there’s one thing Hollywood loves, it’s a good, high-profile reboot. Variety is reporting that hamsters Buttons and Scratch have been cast in the upcoming, Sam Riami-helmed reboot of The Blues Brothers.

The hamsters, who cut their teeth at Second City in Chicago, and also spent time last year at UCB in New York, are being touted as a brilliant combo to reprise the rolls made famous by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

“If the decision to hire action impresario Riami as director was thought odd in Hollywood circles,” wrote Variety reporter Anna Pitasco, “the choice of Buttons and Scratch more than makes up for it. They bring serious funny to the production.”

The movie is expected to start filming later this year in Los Angels, Las Vegas, Vancouver and Chicago.

Owl Refuses to Reveal Tootsie Roll Pop Secrets

Owl Refuses to Reveal Tootsie Roll Pop Secrets

It is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the candy industry: how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?

Though the company’s official stance is that the number varies and “the world may never know,” the secret of the actual number of licks was entrusted to a great horned owl in 1970. Now just a few days away from retirement, many in the candy world hope that he might finally reveal the number.

“Nope, I’m sure that information is going with him to the grave,” said Tootsie Roll historian, Reginald Fairchild. “Even in retirement, I wouldn’t place bets that he’ll ever reveal that secret.”

Still, candy industry watchers think there is a good chance that the owl will decide to write a memoir, which could at least hint at the actual number of licks it takes to reach the chocolatey Tootsie Roll center.
