Guinea Pig Refuses to Upgrade to Windows 8

A 5-year-old guinea pig named Plumca (short for “Plumcake”) is reportedly the last hold-out in her office when it comes to upgrading her PC.

“She absolutely refuses to make the jump to Windows 8,” says Tom Halifax, the Director of IT at Coleridge Mutual Insurance Co. “I mean, I can’t really blame her. Windows 7 is a beautiful OS. And what’s up with the whole ‘Metro’ thing? Who needs that? But still, the latest updates close a lot of security holes in our network.”

Plumca’s resistance has included hunger strikes and chaining herself to her laptop.

“I’m not sure they can fire her over it,” says Judy Crosshaven, a co-worker. “But she’s not making the bosses happy, that’s for sure.”

‘Grumpy Bunnies’ Land Syndicated Show on NPR

Public radio giant NPR announced today that it had finally found a replacement for Car Talk, the automobile-centric call-in show that was retired just over a year ago. The new show, Grumpy Bunnies, will follow a similar format and features rabbit brothers Grizzly and Gromit Cierrello. 

“We’re trying to reach new audiences,” said Yvette Raskin, a spokesperson for the organization.

Raskin also confirmed that the bunny brothers will record the show in NPR’s recently LEED certified new office building in Washington, DC. That’s a big move from the program’s current home, a college radio station in Manchester, NH.

The show will open with a bit of comedy before segueing to a traditional call-in format. 

“Research tells us that a lot of people are listening to NPR with their pets in the room, but we didn’t really have anything to draw those pets in as regular listeners,” said Raskin. “Who better than the irascible Griz and Grom to reach that audience?”

The show will debut in February 2014.

Pomeranian Mounts Campaign Against Attention-Grabbing Baby

A Pomeranian pup named Pica had mounted a legal campaign against a baby that her lawyers claim has “forcefully and maliciously stolen” from the dog.

According to Pica’s legal team, the baby has allegedly usurped the puppy’s place as the cutest member of the household, and thus taken much of the privilege that role entails.

“She no longer gets extra treats, her walks in the park are half the time they used to be, and forget about getting any attention from visitors,” said lawyer Casey Litton. “That all went out the window as soon as that baby arrived.”

Pica is seeking compensatory damages in $2 million range and immediate removal of the child.
