Dog Sued for Libel Over Misleading Sign

Dog Sued for Libel Over Misleading Sign

A neighborhood dog named Duke has been served a libel suit over what the plaintiff is calling “misleading signage.”

“The sign says ‘Beware of Dog,’ but that’s basically a lie,” says Maureen Phinster, the resident who brought the lawsuit. “Duke is a real sweetheart, there’s nothing to be afraid of. So why put up a sign like that? It’s just confusing people.”

But attorneys for Duke claim that this is a free speech issue. “My client can put up whatever sign he wants,” says George McCallister, Esq. “’Free Cha-Cha Lessons,’ for example. It doesn’t mean he has to deliver. It’s his property, and he can do what he likes.”

The hearing is scheduled for November 19th.
