Dog Bodega Owner Is a Hit With Locals

Business has been booming at a Queens bodega ever since its owner was unceremoniously let go and replaced with a dog.

“He’s just the coolest,” says a neighborhood youngster, referring to Giant, a black Lab. “Like, yesterday I wanted to buy some Twizzlers but I was a dollar short. He didn’t even say anything.”

In addition to his lenient sales policies, locals cite Giant’s equally strict adherance to tobacco laws.

“Oh yeah, good luck buying smokes from him without an ID,” says Ray Canterbury. “My grandmother just happened to forget hers, and he just wasn’t having it. He literally blocked the tobacco shelf – as if she was going to take the whole display. She’s 83.”

Still, residents wouldn’t have it any other way. “Come on, even the last guy would tell you a dog is way better,” Canterbury says, stepping up to the counter. “Isn’t that right, buddy? Who’s a good boy? Huh? Who’s a good boy? Uh, let me get a Powerball and some 9-volt batteries.”

Cat Refuses to Leave Box During Dinner

According to reports, a local cat by the name of Gillie refuses to leave his box, even at the dinner table.

“It’s totally rude,” says James McGirk, Gillie’s roommate.  "He’s always in that damn box.  Watching TV? In the box. Playing cribbage? In the box.  And I can live with it most of the time… but while we’re eating?  C’mon. That’s too far.“

Gillie’s refusal to leave his box has stretched relationships with everyone around him, say sources, but the cat is steadfastly sticking by his behavior: no box, no Gillie.

Hamster Runs Up $5,000 Long Distance Bill

According to sources, a sneaky little hamster in Shreveport, LA has run up a $5,000 long distance phone bill on a phone he didn’t own.  

“It’s mostly calls to the Czech Republic and Botswana,” said a source close to the situation.  "He has relatives in Botswana, but I have no idea why he was calling Eastern Europe.“ 

The hamster has agreed to pay down the bill by working the charges off slowly doing chores.  Because hamster earning potential is so low, working off his debt will likely take him the next 4-5 years.

Cat Finds Quiet Place in the Woods to Nap

Area cat Philip had to resort to hiking out into the woods and building a nest of leaves to finally find some peace and quiet.  "It’s been really loud at the office lately,“ according to Phil’s coworkers.  "They’re installing a new fire escape, or something, and there’s all this hammering.  Plus, it’s been someone’s birthday almost every day this week, so the singing has been kinda non-stop.  I don’t blame Phil for wanting a little quiet.”

According to sources, Philip stayed in his “nest” for a couple of hours of power napping before returning to the office refreshed and cranking through a few more spreadsheets.
