Terrier Is First Canine Ball Boy at U.S. Open

A Jack Russel Terrier named Linus made history this week as the first dog to serve as ball boy for the U.S. Open tennis tournament in Queens, NY.

“It’s a great day for dogs and sports fans everywhere,” says Mallory Buitron, a canine rights advocate. “Next up, Augusta National Golf Club.”

Local Dog’s Diving License Suspended

An area pooch had his driver’s license suspended after authorities realized he was a dog.  The pup, named Archibald, obtained his operator’s license from the Department of Motor Vehicles a month ago with a near perfect score of 99 on the written test and a passing grade of 85 on the driving test.  At a routine traffic stop this week, police officers realized that Archie is a dog and suspended his license under the grounds that he “isn’t human.”

“This is ridiculous,” said longtime friend Jody Lizardi.  "Archie passed all the tests and no one said a thing.  I mean, if they don’t want non-humans to drive, why put a box for ‘Species’ on the application?“

Area Dog Is Already Sick of School

It’s only been a week, but Rocky is already slacking on his homework.  The pooch, who returned to school at the beginning of this week, is dragging and having trouble finishing his required reading for class.

“He better shape up,” said a source close to the situation.  "He’s still got 175 more days of this and he’s already behind.“

Puppy ‘Thrilled’ at News of Lavigne/Kroeger Engagement

Haters may hate, but there’s at least one puppy who was happy to hear about the engagement of singers Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger.

“Ollie is over the moon,” says Carol Fletcher, a close friend. “He’s a huge fan of crappy music, so it was a big deal when he found out.”

Dog Wins All the Awards

A local pup named Chico has reportedly won all available awards.  A clean sweep.

“Best fur-do, top fetcher, fastest time to nom a rawhide bone, you name it, Chico won it,” said Angel Muñoz, who chairs the committee that gives out the awards.  "Chico is now the most decorated dog in history, having won 22 awards in the past three years.“

Chico plans to retire after this season and is considering writing a memoir, according to his publicist.
