STUDY: Shoes Aren’t Practical for Dogs

Though it is common knowledge that dogs obsess about the way they look, a new study from the University of Antwerp has discovered that for most pups, they are merely a fashion accessory.

“Dog look good in sneakers,” said study author and doctoral student Bernard Van de Velde, “but our study found that they’re not really necessary.  They may even be a hindrance.”

According to Van de Velde’s research, dogs don’t actually need sneakers.  Their feet – or “paws” – apparently contain digital, carpal and metacarpal pads that protect them from the rough surface of the ground.  "In fact, we’ve found that dogs actually seem to have a harder time walking while wearing shoes,“ said Van de Velde.  "But damn, do they look fly.”

Puppy Protests ‘Dog Shaming’ With Positive Message

The popular “dog shaming” meme has been spreading across the Internet like wildfire.  But one local puppy is having none of it.  

“Savannah thinks so-called ‘dog shaming’ is severely damaging to a pup’s psychological development,” says canine psychoanalyst Dr. Thom Lasco.

The chihuahua puppy is protesting the meme by posting photos of herself along with “pup-positive messages” to the Internet.  

“She really feels that this is an important issue and that dogs need to stand up for their rights,” says Lasco.  "It is the dog shamers who should be ashamed!“

Pup Dons Elephant Costume ‘For the Children’

Area French Bulldog, Chang, has taken to wearing an elephant costume during the day.  He’ll wear it around the house, he’ll wear it on walks outside, he’ll wear it while running errands.

“A lot of people think he’s just really into Halloween,” explained close friend Amanda Williams.  "But that’s not why Chang wears the elephant.  He’s doing it for the children.“

According to Williams, Chang has yet to meet a child who doesn’t laugh at the sight of a bully with a trunk.  And that, said Williams, is reason enough for Chang.
