A local dog named Mort has invested in a “human blind,” which allows him unprecedented insight into the human world. The camouflaged perch enables him to observe humans in their natural habitat without being detected.

“On the one hand, he’s gathering a lot of really great data and hasn’t been noticed yet,” said Amelia Trager, a researcher at Duke University where Mort is a post-doc. “On the other hand, though, I mean, I’m a human, so I’m not sure how much I’ll learn from his observations that I don’t already know.” 

Mort set up his blind in the upstairs bathroom of the house he rents with three human roommates and has been observing their morning routines undetected for the past two weeks.

Numerous reports out of South Florida confirm that marketing mogul and golden retriever puppy Bowden has grown bored with all the trappings that billions can buy.

“He was out on his yacht the other day but it just wasn’t the same,” says Jeff Adkins, Bowden’s personal assistant. “Something was missing, and I knew he felt it.”

Indeed, many of Bowden’s sports cars, infinity pools and in-home movie theaters (he has three in his Miami Beach mansion) have collected dust, of late.

“He’s looking for something money can’t buy,” says Aileen Kaufman, another employee. “Maybe a scratch on the head or something, I don’t know.”

Noted antique collector and local dog Smithers is happy with a recently commissioned portrait for his living room, even though it cost a small fortune.

“Smithers really loves it,” said Tamryn Malick, an area art dealer who connected Smithers to the artist. “I find it a bit over the top, but there’s no accounting for taste.”

According to Malick, Smithers sold his prized possession – a newspaper from the day the Titanic sank – to pay for the art work.

“It was hard for him to part with that, I think,” said Malick. “But it’s probably for the best. I bet he would have ended up just chewing it to bits anyway.”
