In Blind Taste Test, 4 Out of 5 Cats Prefer Coffee
In a blind taste test, 4 out of 5 cats reportedly prefer coffee to water.
The study, which appears in the upcoming issue of the Journal of Beverage Science, was conducted by a team of researchers at Stockholm University in Sweden. It is, however, not without detractors.
“You have to follow the funding,” said Tony Robison, a science writer for The New York Times, who has been extremely critical of the research. “85% of the money for this study came from a grant underwritten by Maxwell House. Maxwell House! That alone should make you question the results.”
Researchers stand by their conclusions.
“Look, we disclosed our funding from the start,” said Tilda Carlstedt, one of the co-authors of the paper. “No funny business. And besides, the Journal of BS is a serious publication. They peer review everything they print.”
Economists are expecting that study will provide a boost to business at cat cafes across the globe, regardless of its accuracy.

Dog Rescues Tennis Ball from Crevasse
Oliver, a Golden Retriever from the Boston, MA area, has rescued a family of five tennis balls that had fallen into a crevasse that opened up near his house.
“The snow has been so bad here this winter that we’re starting to see a massive ice sheet form in the backyard,” said Oliver’s roommate James McCalla. “It’s dangerous out there – you never know where the ice might split open. It’s three feet deep in most places. Sometimes even three and a half.”
According to McCalla, Oliver noticed that tennis balls at the bottom of one crevasse while out on “walkies.”
“He didn’t even hesitate,” said McCalla. “He just dove right in and rescued the balls. He’s a hero, if you ask me. They’d have been out there until spring if not for Ollie.”
Local media is reporting that the tennis balls are now resting comfortably in Oliver’s doggy bed.
