Sleep Researchers Determine that Cat Naps Are the Most Restful

Sleep Researchers Determine that Cat Naps Are the Most Restful

By Anna Washenko, FluffPo Correspondent

Despite the recent hype about coffee naps, sleep researchers from the University of Wisconsin have found that the best way to snooze is a cat nap. The team found that their feline test subject, a cat named Wookie, was the best rested and most relaxed of all participants, easily besting their human, badger, marmoset, hummingbird and manatee subjects.

“Wookie’s sleeping habits have been of interest in the field for quite some time,” lead investigator Angela Fanness said. “We wanted to take the time to really delve deep into the duration and frequency of his cat naps, and see how they impact his well-being.”

Fanness explained that the study confirmed long-held suspicions about the benefits of cat napping.

“We found a direct correlation between minutes spent cat napping and happiness,” she said. “Wookie spent the most time sleeping. The naps did have a slightly adverse impact on his weight, but that was the only negative response he had.”

Results were published in the peer-reviewed journal, Scientific Sleep.

BREAKING: Cat Refuses to Leave Bed After Bad Day

By Anna Washenko, FluffPo Correspondent

According to local news reports, a Chicago-area cat named Pippin is in the middle of a very bad day. Eye witnesses tell authorities that he has locked himself in his room, surrounded himself with blankets and refuses to see or speak to anyone.

Heather Gonzalez spoke about what incited the cat’s behavior in an interview with NBC5 Chicago.

“I had a lot to do this morning, so nobody gave him scratches behind the ears with breakfast,” she said. “Then there were birds outside the window and even though he mewled for hours — seriously, hours — he couldn’t do anything to catch them.”

After giving up on the birds, Gonzalez said Pippin retreated to the bed, burrowed under the covers, and has not moved since then.

We’ll update as the story develops…

Indiana Cat Bemoans Demise of Print Media

Indiana Cat Bemoans Demise of Print Media

By Anna Washenko, FluffPo Correspondent

Much of the world has decided that news is best obtained online in a flurry of tweets, status posts, and grabby headlines. But in a cozy house in Zionsville, IN, the tradition of reading an old-fashioned newspaper still holds a treasured place in daily life.

For Laura (human) and Butternut (cat) Shelby, reading together on the weekend isn’t just about knowing what’s happening in the headlines. It’s about spending enjoyable time together.

“We’ve read the Sunday paper together for ages,” said Laura Shelby, whose lap is pictured above. “I love the crossword puzzles, and Butternut will catch up on the sports pages. We’ll have some biscotti and coffee. It’s such a relaxing way to end the weekend.”

Rumors have been swirling recently that the local Zionsville daily will cease publication in favor of an all-digital subscription. Ms. Shelby said she’d miss the peaceful Sundays if that change does come to pass.

“I know publishers talk about how great the tablets and the smartphones are,” she said. “But it’s just not the same. Plus, Butternut can’t chase a crumpled up Kindle around the room.”
