Your birthday comes along only once per year. It’s an incontrovertible fact, but one that Silas, a young cat from Vancouver, BC, Canada, is having trouble accepting.

“It all started last year,” said Samara Weir, a close friend of the two-year-old kitty. “For his first birthday, we were visiting family in Calgary so we ended up having a party there, and then another for his friends when we got back to Vancouver.”

This year, said Weir, the family in Calgary is visiting them.

“So we only had one party,” she said. “but Silas is expecting two. He thinks that’s just how it’s done.”

According to Weir, the cat has refused to take off his party hat. He’s spent five days since his party slipping deeper and deeper into denial about his passed birthday.

“It breaks my heart a little bit,” Weir said. “But I mean, I have a job, a life. I can’t just be celebrating a cat’s birthday all week.”

According to reports out of Palm Desert, CA, two cats are being forced to share one box. They’re not happy about it.

Sources on the ground tell The Fluffington Post that while neither cat is enthused by the situation, is it Prince Whiskerton, pictured on the left, who is most upset. By most accounts Whiskerton is generally an easy going cat, but he is very territorial. 

“That’s pretty common for cats,” said U.C. San Diego feline psychologist and Fluffington Post senior cat behavior analyst Cynthia McCaffrey. “Cats like to stake out their favorite spots – a patch of sun, a chair, a pillow, someone’s shoe – and once claimed, they see it at theirs in every sense of the word.”

McCaffrey says that just like people, some kitties are good at sharing, some of them aren’t. But the developing situation in Palm Desert has the makings of disaster for one key reason.

“Let’s not forget we’re talking about a box here,” said McCaffrey. “This isn’t a couch or some old patio furniture or something. This is a box. The only thing more like catnip to cats than boxes is, well, um, I guess catnip. Point is, this could get real ugly, real fast.”

Big Brother: Cat House was born.

Turns out, though, the secret life of kitties is kind of boring. They sleep a lot and rarely do anything interesting. Plus, they’re fiercely independent and don’t like being told what to do.

“Once they knew the camera was there, they kind of refused to do anything,” explained executive producer Marko Wilder. “They just sort of napped all day and walked around like they were too good for TV.”

The network canceled Big Brother: Cat House after just two episodes. Eleven more were filmed for season one, but Wilder said they have no plans to air them.

“I don’t think we’ll even do a DVD,” he told The Fluffington Post via email. “We have over 500 hours of footage of cats just sleeping. I don’t know what we were thinking.”
