Canada Dry’s Free Kitten Promo Boosts Sales 34%
Bold marketing stunts don’t always pay off, but when they do, the results can be impressive.
Canada Dry Ginger Ale’s recent campaign, “Buy 12, Get a Kitten,” is now widely hailed by marketers as a giant success. The soda has been flying off supermarket shelves, and parent company Dr Pepper Snapple Group reports sales are up 34% since launch.
“If you’re at the store deciding between two different brands of soda, and one package has a free kitten in it,” says Jim Frankel, a marketing analyst with Businessweek. “I mean, come on. It’s a no-brainer.”

Dog Won’t Stop Staring at New Kitty
In all his eight years, Buddy the dog has never seen a cat. When Felix moved in, it was a bit of a culture shock.
“He can’t stop staring,” says Ashleigh Sudman, a source close to the situation. “He knows Felix is not a human and he knows he’s not a dog, but he just can’t figure it out. Felix is nice about it, but every so often he gives me this look that says, ‘What is wrong with this dog?! Get him out of here!’ ”
EXPERTS: Cat’s Hiding Spot Not That Good
According to a panel of scientists, this cat’s hiding spot is just not that great. "Cats are often found in boxes, so it’s really the first place you should look,“ said one feline concealment expert in the report. "That this cat chose to hide in a box really shows a lack of creativity.”
The cat could not be reached for comment.
