Cat Surprised by Romney’s Paul Ryan Pick

By Scott Friedstein, Fluffpo Correspondent

According to reports, a local cat is still in a state of disbelief after it was announced Saturday that Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan would be joining Mitt Romney on the 2012 Republican ticket.

A politically inclined kitty, Brickle had tuned into CNN just for the announcement. Suffice it to say, he was unprepared for the news that followed.

“He’d been following the race pretty closely,” says Rick Turner, a source close to the situation. “He thought Tim Pawlenty would be a shoo-in. If not him, maybe Bobby Jindal. Chris Christie was always a long shot. But Paul Ryan? He was not expecting that at all.”

Cat Names Popsicles as Favorite Summer Treat

Hazel the cat thinks there’s only one way to truly beat the summer heat: popsicles.

“She loves fruit, mostly orange, but sometimes raspberry,” said friend Jamie O’Toole.  According to O’Toole, Hazel will easily chomp through a box of pops each week during the hottest days of August.  "When the mercury pushes 95 degrees, Hazel isn’t happy until she’s got a popsicle in her paws.“

Area Dog Sidelined by Gluten Allergy

Area Dog Sidelined by Gluten Allergy

By Scott Friedstein, FluffPo Correspondent

Charlie was always a carefree dog. As friends will tell you, the French Bulldog spends most days frolicking in the backyard, chasing squirrels, and squeezing in the occasional nap. Last week however, Charlie got the news that would change his life forever: He was allergic to gluten.

“I gave him a bagel, I think,” says Alanna Davis, Charlie’s owner. “Anyway, he just started sneezing. Then he walked away. He literally could not tolerate the gluten. ”

According to medical experts, gluten intolerance is often a precursor to Celiac disease, a much more serious condition. Although relatively uncommon in dogs, it isn’t unheard of.

“Yeah, I’ve heard of it,” says Burt Dandridge, a doctor. “That stuff’s no fun.”

Still, Charlie and his owner plan on sticking it out.

“We’ll manage somehow,” says Davis. “I’m buying gluten-free food right now, even though you can only get it through the internet. It’s really, really expensive.”
