With the holidays far behind us, the bitter emotional desert of winter stretches out to the horizon with no end in sight. That’s a cue for many local cats to head under the covers – and not come out for months.
“It’s a trend we see year after year right around this time,” says Raymond Cates, a feline psychologist at Boston University. “They just wrap themselves up and good luck getting them out of there, pal.”
Buttons, a cat from Providence, RI, has been wrapped in a blanket since November 3rd. “We call it the burrito defense,” says Marcy Eberlin, the cat’s roommate and friend. “You need to go at least two layers deep and don’t come out until at least mid-April. There’s no other way.”
