Doberman Opens Karate Gym

The downstairs business district between the kitchen and the family room has experience a renaissance of late. First “Sit. Stay. Pet Sitting" moved in and then last month "Groomingdales” puppy boutique and spa opened a franchise. The latest business to move into the bustling area is Rawhide Dojo, a new canine karate studio.

The studio is run by Mojo, a 7th dan black belt and Doberman Pinscher who relocated to the area after spending five years in Okinawa, Japan training.

“We’re really excited to have Mojo’s dojo open up on the block,” said Annalee Gumpkiss, president of the Downstairs Small Business Association. “It’s a great addition to the district. Oh, but I’ve heard he gets kind of mad if you call it ‘Mojo’s dojo.’ Could you no print that?”

Pup Launches ‘Mature Gentleman’ Clothing Line

Earl Jones, a terrier mix with an acute fashion sense, has launched his own line of pupwear his company calls “The Mature Gentleman.”

“It’s for dogs who want to look like affluent men in their 50s or 60s,” says Rhonda Morgan, a spokesperson for Mr. Jones. “We’ve got sweater vests, bow ties, flannel shirts, blazers with elbow patches. You name it.”

Currently, the Mature Gentleman line is only available on the web, but Jones plans to expand into traditional retail by December.

“Keep an eye out for these distinguished fashions in Target and J. Crew,” says Morgan.

Area Cat Stood Up by Online Dating Match

Finding love in the 21st century is hard enough. Being a cat certainly doesn’t help.

A single cat named Nymeria had no luck meeting men at local catnip bars, and the guys at her office left a lot to be desired.

“I told her to try friskyfinder.com,” says Colleen Sonders, a friend of the cat, referring to the popular feline dating website. “I know tons of cats who found a boyfriend on there.”

She was skeptical at first, but Nymeria created a profile, and within an hour, found 17 compatible suitors.

“She texted with this one guy Rick for a few days until they finally agreed to meet,” says Sonders. But on the night of the first date, Rick was nowhere to be found. “It’s like he just disappeared – no text, no call. His dating profile was gone too.” Nymeria waited at the door for nearly two hours, according to witnesses.

But she’s not discouraged. She’s already set up two more dates, according to Sonders. “There are plenty of fish in the sea. And by fish, I mean cats. And by sea, I mean the Internet.”
