Saint Louis puppy Burt Macklin immediately terminated his cable package late Sunday afternoon after he was stuck at home with nothing to watch but live TV.
“He had the sniffles so he couldn’t get out to the park for his usual walkies,” says Cynthia O’Donnell, a source familiar with the situation. “He sat in front of the tube and watched about seven hours of daytime television. He was not the same after that.”
The programming horrified him, according to witnesses. Insipid talk shows, infomercials, reality shlock, B movies and reruns flooded every station.
“And the commercials,” says O’Donnell. “They’re everywhere.”
Macklin reportedly applied the savings on his cable bill toward a Hulu Plus subscription and an Internet speed upgrade, though The Fluffington Post could not confirm the megabit download rate at the time of publication.
Mai Mai, a cat from Tokyo, Japan, reportedly spends about ¥5,400/day (~US$50) on orders from online retailer Amazon. But she has a rather unique reason, according to sources close to the situation.
“She doesn’t even care what she buys,” said Mai Mai’s roommate Masumi Kurogane. “She just does it for the boxes.”
Kurogane said that Mai Mai orders basically whatever is on the front page of the Amazon app – books, DVDs, t-shirts, denture cream, even a lawnmower once – and then tosses the items when they arrive.
“But them she’ll sit in those boxes for hours. She claims they’re really high quality,” said Kurogane. “The next day, she does it all over again. It’s crazy.”
The habit is starting to put a strain on the cat’s finances. She reportedly missed rent last month and her credit card bill is mammoth. Plus, said Kurogane, the apartment is a mess.
