International Business Times Reporter Implicated in Staged Cat Meme Scandal

February 3, 2012 · Leave a Comment

According to emails obtained by The Fluffington Post, Michael Nuñez, a reporter for the International Business Times, has employed cat visual effects specialists Kittywood Studios to create faked cat meme videos.  According to the emails, which have been verified by an independent digital forensics team, Nuñez hired Kittywood at least twice since November of 2011.

It is unclear whether the falsified cat meme videos were used in any of Nuñez’s reporting for IBT.  His editors declined to comment for this story.

In the past week, Nuñez has published a series of reports wrongly accusing this news organization of spreading disinformation and exploiting underage animals.

An excerpt from the emails obtained by The Fluffington Post is below.
