Gerbil Spits Off Top of Empire State Building

We’ve all heard the rumors – if you spit from the top of the Empire State Building, your loogie will gather so much velocity that it will crack the sidewalk.

It’s not true, of course – it’s doubtful your spit will stay together down 102 stories, and if it does, it won’t actually hit the ground, it’ll hit the roof of a lower floor. But that doesn’t stop tourists from trying to hock wet ones off the top every day.

The latest member of the “I was banned from the Empire State Building for spitting off the top” club? A gerbil from upstate named Marty.

Marty and his pal Biff were in town for a bachelor party and stopped off at the ESB to take some photos. After some ribbing and an escalating round of school yard dares, Marty wound up and spit right through the chain-link fence.

Security guards had him back on the elevators in no time with an invitation to kindly never return.

Let this be a cautionary tale.
