Baby Meerkats Steal the Show at New Zealand Zoo
Veteran residents of the Wellington Zoo in New Zealand are upset by the hubris of two new meerkat pups born there in January. Representatives from the zebra, elephant and primate enclosures have all expressed concern that visitors are bypassing their exhibits in favor of seeing the pups. The phrase “spoiled little brats” has also been tossed around by numerous parties.
“The animals are just jealous because the meerkats are getting attention,” says Joshua Bailey, one of the zookeepers. “This always happens when there babies, but they’ll get over it.”
