Guinea Pig Pals to Open Family Restaurant

After facing layoffs in the construction industry, Poe and Dani decided to pool their savings and open a restaurant in the neighborhood.

“It’s been their lifelong dream,” says Darren Stang, a close friend. “Neither has management experience. They couldn’t cook a bowl of pasta to save their lives. And they’re pretty bad with money. But, I think they’ve got a shot.”

The family restaurant, called Pigglebee’s, will open its doors the public this fall.

Area Hamster Taking It Easy for the Summer

After a long year of nearly non-stop work, one local hamster has decided to take a little “me” time to recharge his batteries.

“He just sits there in his little chair, munching on a cucumber, relaxing under the desk lamp,” said roommate Jonas Redhook.  "I think he really needed this.  He was starting to get totally burned out at the wheel, so this is a good way to relax and recharge.“

Squirrel Misses Comic-Con After 5 Year Streak

Sandy, a squirrel from Cotati, CA, is obsessed with geek culture. He loves all things superhero, sci-fi and fantasy.

As such, he’s been a regular attendee of Comic-Con in San Diego for five years running. Unfortunately, he will miss this year’s nerd fest due to family obligations.

“He’s pretty bummed about it,” says Hank Isa, a friend who often accompanies Sandy to the yearly convention. “I promised to bring him back an autograph from one of the Doctor Who cast members.”

Hamsters Reunited After Long-Distance Relationship

Chloe and Steve have been dating for nearly 10 months, but most of that time was spent apart. The hamsters met through the online matchmaking site OKhammy.com, and while they have connected in person, their careers took them to different parts of the country.

“It was really tough on them for a while,” says Gabe Fisher, a close friend of Steve. “They’d email and Skype every day, but it was always a little sad.”

Fortunately, Chloe was able to get a transfer within her company. The happy couple now share a one-bedroom cage.

“Steve said they might buy an exercise wheel together,” says Fisher. “It sounds like they’re really getting serious.”

Flying Guinea Pig Perplexes Zoologists

Flying squirrels are old news. Flying guinea pigs are another matter entirely.

An amazing piggie named Oliver has confounded researchers with his unique ability to hover a few inches off the ground.

“The only logical explanation,” says Richard Bledell, a zoologist with the World Wildlife Fund, “is that he was born on planet Krypton and his flight is powered by the Earth’s yellow sun.”
