Puppy Party Planners Hire 16 New Employees

Business is exploding for dog-owned event planning startup Paws the Music. Ever since the birthday extravaganza for a Russian telecom mogul went off without a hitch, the pups have been in high demand. To meet their bookings, they’ve had to hire 16 new employees in the last three months.

“It’s great for the local economy,” says Chase Bank manager Norman Guthrie. His branch granted the dogs a small business loan two years ago, which has of course been repaid in full. “They’ve created jobs, and are tapping into a really upscale market. And of course, they throw the best parties. The waiting list right now is ridiculous.”

Dogs’ 1960s Musical Revue Falls Flat With Critics

When fans of the doggie duo Bacon & Carbuncle got wind of their new project, online music forums lit up with anticipation. But The Flower Power Hour, a revue of popular ‘60s pop and folk tunes which opened yesterday, has most critics groaning.

“I love ’60s music as much as the next guy,” writes Howard Moss, music critic for The New York Times. “But the arrangements, the staging, the choreography – it’s just really corny. It’s so over the top, it’s not even worth the nostalgia.”

This and similar reviews don’t bode well for the show and its producers, who sank nearly $40 million into the production in the hopes of scoring a retro hit, a la Jersey Boys. But so far, Bacon & Carbuncle aren’t discouraged.

“They get out there five nights a week, flower child costumes and all, singing their hearts out,” says stage manager Rori Templeton. “It’s a really fun show to be a part of.”

Elusive ‘Lion Maltese’ Spotted in the Wild

Hunted nearly to extinction for their prized and luxurious coats in the 1980s, rarely has a Lion Maltese been spotted in the wild during the past two decades. However, ornithologists in Borneo working on a story about Red-billed starlings for National Geographic, have reportedly spotted a pair of the ferocious pups.

The most fearsome of all Maltese dogs, the Lion Maltese is native to South East Asia. At their peak in the early part of the 20th century, it was estimated that there were some 140 million of the species in the world and their range extended as far South as Northern Australia.

Now that number is estimated to be in the mere thousands, with most in captivity, and the Lion Maltese is on the official endangered species list. 

“It was truly incredible to see one of these beasts in the wild,” said Martin Whitford, a photographer on the National Geographic team. “We should be doing everything we can to protect these majestic creatures.”
