Cats Need to Be More Courteous [OP-ED]

Look, we get it: cats are clean.  And we’re not faulting them for it.  In fact, we kind of admire their ability to keep themselves so spotless.  But what we can’t abide is when cats feel entitled to inconvenience the rest of us for their hygiene.

The two kitties in the photograph above caused a two-hour traffic jam after they decided – completely unannounced and without the proper permits – to just sit down and start cleaning themselves in the middle of the street.  That kind of behavior just can’t continue.

Newsflash, cats, the world doesn’t revolve around you.  Are you cute?  Yes.  Are you cuddly?  Yes.  Do we keep you around even though you basically don’t do anything?  Of course.  

But how about a little respect?

Area Cat is Concerned Over iPhone 5 Connector Rumors

Oliver, a cat from the Washington, D.C. area, has been psyched for months about the new iPhone, rumored to be launching this fall.  Oliver skipped upgrading when the iPhone 4S hit last year, so his current phone is getting a little long in the tooth.

But new rumors about a change in the iPhone’s connector have Oliver worried.  According to reports, Apple is planning to ditch the 30-pin connector port that has been standard on its devices for the past decade, in favor of a more compact 19-pin version.

“Ollie’s concerned that his current collection of accessories – a speaker dock, an alarm clock, a car adapter – won’t be compatible with the new iPhone,” said roommate Ben Rhodes.  "More than the cost, he’s worried about the environmental impact.  All those old accessories work fine, so what’s he supposed to do with them if he has to buy new versions?“

A second rumor that Apple will offer an adapter for backwards compatibility hasn’t totally mollified Oliver, who thinks that solution is inelegant.

Kitten’s Ballroom Dancing Prowess Stuns Judges

At a ballroom dancing competition in Hamburg, Germany, one unheralded kitten stole the show.  Mowgli, a relative unknown on the ballroom dance circuit, stunned judges with his graceful movement and fluid steps.

“He danced in that weird way kittens do and was up there alone, so technically he’s not eligible to win,” said Lithuanian judge Monika Butkevičius. “Still, I was very impressed with his skill.  We all were.  He has a bright future if he can find a partner to match his moves.”

Cat-Owned Contractor Wins Safety Award

Feline-owned and operated Alley Katz Painting Contractors, LLC has been awarded a “Top Safety” rating by the local area chamber of commerce for their spotless workplace safety record.  Alley Katz hasn’t had an accident on the job in the 36 months since opening for business.

Unfortunately for the firm, the favorable chamber of commerce safety rating was paired with an unfavorable consumer satisfaction score.  "We’ve just had too many complaints of napping while on the clock,“ said chamber of commerce president, Alex Greenberg.  "They may be very careful at Alley Katz, but they also barely get any actual work done.”
