Reports from the living room indicate that that new wall-to-wall carpet, which was controversially installed late last week, has won over at least one rabid supporter. According to eyewitnesses, Theo the cat, previously a vocal opponent of the carpet improvement project, has changed his tune.

“He led the charge against the carpet,” said Tony Lanza, a spokesman for the local construction worker’s union, which supported the project. “He wasn’t in favor of the one cent yarn tax increase that’s being used to pay for the infrastructure bond.”

According to Lanza and others, Theo has changed his tune.

“He’s spent the entire weekend with his face down in the carpet,” said Lanza. “He apparently didn’t know about the new carpet smell, or I think he would have supported the project all along.”

After their demo was rejected by every label in New York, all kitten pop music group ‘Meow 5′ took to social media to try to find an audience. And it’s worked.

The group gained attention earlier this summer when their YouTube covers of The Cure’s “The Love Cats,” and “Cat’s in the Cradle,” by Harry Chapin were posted to Reddit’s r/CatMusic community. The tracks have together attracted over 2.5 million views.

Now the group has been invited to perform at the Life is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas this weekend – somewhat hilariously, they’ll be taking the stage immediately before Snoop Dogg.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” says the group’s manager, Anna-Marie Castro, who has been with the kittens since they were born to her cat, Twinkles, in May. “I mean, I knew they’d do well on Instagram and Pinterest, but when I found out they could sing I had no idea what to expect. Certainly not this.”

The group is working on an album of original material, set to drop at the beginning of 2016.

That’s the fate that befell Coby’s most recent shower thought. “It might have been for an invention, or a blog he was going to start,” says Macy Randolf, a source familiar with the situation. “Whatever it was, it was probably going to change the world. And then – poof. It was gone.”

Multiple reports from the scene claim Coby has been thinking about it all day long. “He’s re-tracing is steps, hoping to trigger the memory” says Arnold Koerber, Coby’s roommate and longtime friend. “He even took a second shower an hour later to try and get it back. No luck.”

Duchess the cat was elected mayor of Wiley, SD – population 241 – last year after her predecessor was recalled. Now the cat is potentially facing a recall challenge of her own after a local blogger accused her of widespread abuses of power.

“An audit of town documents obtained via Freedom of Information Act requests shows that Duchess has repeatedly used her political position for personal gain,” wrote the blogger, known only by the nom de plume WileyWatcher. 

According to the series of posts, Duchess used town funds to hire an intern whose sole job was to “scratch her frequently behind the ears,” and she apparently gave herself a $500/month “feather and yarn” budget. Most damaging, however, WileyWatcher details how the cat used her position to grant favors to friends.

“When it came time to upgrade the litter box facilities at a local park,” claims the blogger, “the contract went to PawFresh, Inc., a major donor to Duchess’s mayoral campaign. But a close look at the bids submitted for the project reveal that PawFresh was neither the lowest bid nor the most highly rated company.”

Also, she apparently wears a crown around town hall.

A spokesperson for the mayor’s office declined to comment.
