Cat Finds Success in Independent Bookstore Business

In spite of the rising popularity of e-books and an overall shaky economy, Voltaire the cat surprised friends last year by opening a small book shop.  A little over a year later and Books on Main is a smashing success and nascent cultural hub.

“We all thought he was foolish,” said friend Tony Randazzi.  "Who starts a bookstore in the Age of Google and Amazon?  But he sure proved us wrong.“

According to sources, Voltaire’s tiny shop is on track to do half a million dollars in sales this year, with plans to expand into the vacant former hairdresser space next door.  

"The key to our success is community building,” said Kat Wesgger, the manager of Books on Main. “Small, independent bookstores still have a place in society.  To sell books, yes, but more importantly, as cultural centers for the communities they serve.  That’s our goal.”

Cat Botches Holiday Decorations

In his rush to set up the Christmas tree this year, an area cat name Chilo went somewhat overboard.

“He put some heavy duty ornaments at the top, but didn’t balance the weight below,” says Kate Charlotte, a source close to the situation. “The whole thing toppled over after one hour.”

Cat’s New Exercise Routine Questioned by Experts

Fitness video guru and motivational speaker Alexander the Great has come under fire for his new exercise routine dubbed “Flip It Out.” The cat’s 14-step workout mostly entails rolling around wildly on the bed, limbs flailing in all directions.

“There’s certainly no proof that it works any important muscle groups,” says fitness instructor and nutritionist Judy Crenshaw. “And there’s a good chance people could get hurt whipping around like that.”

Pottery Barn Opens Stores for Cats Nationwide

Following the success of its Pottery Barn Kids and PBteen franchises, Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has unveiled 22 new stores dubbed Pottery Barn Cats, whose merchandise will cater exclusively to the affluent feline set.

“It’s basically all the regular PB furniture and home decor accessories, but they smell like tuna and they come pre-scratched,” says Reggie Philbin, a spokesperson for the parent company.

The stores are now open in 13 states across the country.
