‘Hood Dogs’ Surpass ‘Purse Dogs’ as Pet of Choice Among Socialites

Move over tiny purse-sized Chihuahuas, there’s a new vogue pet in town.  According to a landmark study conducted by People magazine, more socialites have chosen “hood dogs” to “purse dogs” over the past 12 months.

“At one time, a socialite’s ensemble wasn’t complete without a purse-sized puppy as an accessory,” said People associate editor Claire Melo, who noted that Paris Hilton’s love of small-sized puppies helped popularize the trend a few years ago.  ”These days, though, we’re finding that hooded sweatshirts are the preferred mode of doggy storage among the debutante set.”
