Local Dog Strikes It Rich With Metal Detector

Many in his circle of friends scoffed when Arnold, a chocolate lab, bought a metal detector.  ”I’ll admit it.  I laughed.  We all did,” says friend Leo Porter.  ”I though it was a waste of money.  Who really ever finds anything but junk with those things?”

But Arnold had the last laugh when late last week he found a cache of Spanish gold dubloons buried near his coastal South Carolina home.  The coins are estimated to be worth nearly $1 million and Arnold plans to auction them through Christie’s later this month.
