Cat Sushi Master Nears Perfection
Tumo, a sushi chef who currently works in a small, three table restaurant in Los Angeles, CA, is at the pinnacle of the sushi world — and is also a cat. Tumo’s restaurant, which does not take reservations, will often have lines of fans stretching around the block, everyone hoping to get a taste of what food writers have dubbed “sushi heaven.”
“The sushi is incredible. I’ve never tasted anything like it,” said a patron waiting in line on a recent Friday night. He had been waiting four hours and it did not get in. ”It’s okay. You never know what it will happen,” he said. “One of these days I’ll get here early enough to eat again. It’s totally worth it.”
Experts say that Tumo’s feline sensibilities make her naturally predisposed to creating great sushi. ”Most cats are good at preparing seafood,” said New York Times food critic Edward O’Day. ”Tumo, of course, elevates it to an art form. That’s talent.”
