Chinchilla Sued for Trademark Infringement
Mittens, a mild-mannered chinchilla from Philadelphia, has found himself embroiled in a bitter lawsuit over his very name.
“Mittens is quite obviously a feline name,” says Arnold Sawyer, the attorney filing charges on behalf of a cat family with the same moniker. “It even rhymes with kittens. I mean, come on.”
The Mittens kitten family goes back 12 generations, and senior members of the household are not too keen on a chinchilla walking around with their brand.
Opponents of the lawsuit claim the family cannot simply trademark a common word.
